Ukraine Not Planning To Quit CIS

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Tarasyuk (file photo) (epa) May 11, 2006 -- Ukrainian Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk said today that Ukraine is not currently considering leaving the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

He reiterated that Ukraine is disappointed with what he described as the inefficiency of the grouping of former Soviet republics, but said "no one has so far" raised the issue of leaving it.

Georgia's pro-Western government has said it is currently studying the possibility of quitting the CIS.
