Afghan Hunger Strikers In Ireland Agree To Drink Liquids

May 15, 2006 -- Most of some 40 unsuccessful Afghan asylum seekers who have been on hunger strike in Ireland have agreed to resume drinking liquids.

Earlier, five members of the group were hospitalized due to dehydration.

The Afghans have said their legal bids to claim political asylum had been rejected. Irish authorities said they would not negotiate with the group, saying that each must pursue his own legal appeal against deportation individually.
