Local Judge, Official Among Dead In Afghan Attack


May 24, 2006 -- A judge, a provincial official, and two guards were killed when their vehicle was ambushed in Afghanistan's central Ghor Province.

The province's deputy governor, Ikramuddin Rezaye, today reported that the attack took place late on May 23.

A Taliban leader claimed responsibility for the killings.

The latest fatalities come amid a week of some of the heaviest fighting since the Taliban militia was ousted by U.S.-led forces in 2001.
