Former Tajik Presidential Guard Chief Faces Death Penalty


Ghaffor Mirzoyev (file photo) (RFE/RL) DUSHANBE, July 18, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Tajikistan's chief military prosecutor, Yusuf Rakhmonov, has asked a court in Dushanbe to sentence the former head of the presidential guard to death.


Ghaffor Mirzoyev is charged with sedition and murder.


Mirzoyev, who was dismissed from the presidential guard in 2004, denies the charges.
