25 Taliban Fighters Reported Killed In Afghanistan


British soldiers in Helmand Province (file photo) (AFP) August 4, 2006 -- U.S.-led coalition forces in Afghanistan say they have killed 25 Taliban fighters in a joint operation with government troops in the southern Helmand Province.

That brings to 53 the number of Taliban fighters reportedly killed in southern Afghanistan in the past three days.

Coalition forces continue to conduct operations in Helmand and the five other southern provinces they formally transferred to the NATO-led International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF) on July 31.

Seven NATO soldiers have been killed in the area since the transfer took place.
