August 9, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- The U.S. military says its soldiers and jet fighters repelled a coordinated insurgency attack on a new U.S. base at Kamdesh in the eastern Afghan province of Nuristan.
The military says 18 militants were killed. There were no reports of U.S. casualties.
RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
