August 14, 2006 - Violence in Afghanistan today left nearly 20 dead.
Government authorities in southern Helmand Province say clashes between police forces and suspected Taliban militants claimed at least 13 lives. Fighting in another area, the southeastern Ghazni Province, left four police officers dead.
In related news, four NATO soldiers and three civilians were wounded in a suicide-bomb attack in a northern neighborhood of the Afghan capital, Kabul.
Another suicide bomber blew himself up in the southeastern Paktika Province, wounding six Afghan troops and one civilian.
Two other bomb attacks were reported across Afghanistan, but they caused no casualties.
