Kabul Orders Probe Into Civilian Deaths


(RFE/RL) August 25, 2006 -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai today ordered a "thorough investigation" into the killing of eight people, including a 10-year-old child, in a joint U.S.-Afghan operation on August 24.


U.S. forces claimed the raid, in the eastern province of Konar, targeted members of the Al-Qaeda terrorist network.


Afghanis officials said, however, that the victims were civilians.
