Police Make Arrest In Murder Of Afghan Official

The Women's Affairs office in Kandahar (epa) November 1, 2006 -- Afghan authorities say they have arrested a man who confessed to assassinating the official in charge of women's affairs for the southern province of Kandahar.

Safia Ama Jan was shot and killed September 25.

Interior Ministry spokesman Zemarai Bashary said the man -- a former member of the Hizb-e Islami militia -- was arrested October 31.
