Saddam Hussein in court on November 7 (epa) November 7, 2006 -- The former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein today called for reconciliation between all ethnic and religious groups in Iraq.

Hussein was appearing in court to face charges of genocide related to the killing of thousands of Kurds in northern Iraq.

Hussein was sentenced to death on November 5 in a separate court case for the deaths of 148 Shi'a after a failed 1982 assassination bid against him in the village of Al-Dujayl.
