Suit Against Rumsfeld Filed In Germany

Former U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld in Iraq this July (epa) November 14, 2006 -- A group of U.S. and German lawyers has filed a complaint in Germany against outgoing U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other officials for allegedly sanctioning torture.

The attorneys represent 11 Iraqis formerly detained at the Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad and one detainee of the U.S. detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

German law allows the prosecution of war crimes regardless of where they were committed.

No action is expected soon, since the complaint was reportedly more than 300 pages long.
