(RFE/RL) November 26, 2006 -- Russian security forces say they killed five people, including a Jordanian fighter, in a clash in the southern republic of Daghestan today.

The authorities identified the foreign fighter as Abu Havs, and said he was a leading Al-Qaeda representative.

He was killed, along with four accomplices, in a four-hour battle in the town of Khasavyurt.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
