Bosnian Serb Leader Target Of Assassination Plot

Milorad Dodik, head of Bosnia's Republika Srpska (file photo) (epa) December 19, 2006 -- Bosnian police are reportedly investigating a suspected plot to assassinate Milorad Dodik, the prime minister of Bosnia's Serbian-populated entity Republika Srpska.

Police said a Serbian criminal gang wanted to kill Dodik on behalf of Montenegrin individuals and officials trying to protect their illegal interests.

Members of the gang are also wanted for the murder in 2003 of the reformist Serbian prime minister Zoran Djindjic.

Dodik declined to comment, but said he doubted Montenegrin officials were involved.
