December 27, 2006 -- The daily newspaper "Izvestiya Kazakhstan" reports today that the country's security service has broken up the Stepnogorsk zhamaat terrorist group that was active in the northern part of the country.
The newspaper alleged that the group was preparing to stage a number of robberies to fund plots to murder officials. The newspaper said security officials confiscated a number of weapons and some banned religious literature from the suspects.
