Netherlands Extradites Iraqi-Dutch Suspect To U.S.

January 28, 2007 -- The government of the Netherlands has extradited an Iraqi-born Dutch citizen to the United States to face charges of plotting attacks on American forces in Iraq.

Dutch authorities said Wisam al-Dilaema was being flown to an undisclosed location in the United States after losing his final appeal against extradition in December.

He is expected to become the first suspect tried in a U.S. court for allegedly plotting attacks on American forces in Iraq.

Al-Dilaema, who was arrested in the Netherlands in 2005 after traveling to Iraq, has said he is innocent.
