Russian Television Tower Blaze Extinguished

(RFE/RL) May 25, 2007 -- Firefighters in Russia have extinguished a fire on a balcony of Moscow's Ostankino television tower.

Emergency Situations Ministry officials say the fire was caused by sparks from welding work. Television broadcasts were unaffected.

A fire in the tower in 2000 killed three people and crippled television broadcasts. The tower caught fire again in April 2005, but no one was hurt.
