U.S. Soldier Sentenced For Iraq Murder


U.S. soldiers in Iraq (file photo) (AFP) August 3, 2007 -- A U.S. military court has sentenced a U.S. Marine sergeant to 15 years in jail for the April 2006 murder of an Iraqi civilian.


The soldier is the only member of an eight-member Marine unit to be convicted of the killing in the town of Hamdania.


Testimony from several of his fellow soldiers revealed him to be the mastermind of a plot to kidnap and kill a suspected insurgent that ended in the murder.
