Two Italian Soldiers Missing In Afghanistan

(RFE/RL) September 23, 2007 -- The Italian Foreign Ministry says two Italian soldiers are missing in Afghanistan.

Afghan authorities say they are searching for the pair, their driver, and translator after no contact with them since they passed through a police checkpoint in Shindand district of Herat Province on September 22.

General Ali Khan Hassanzada, chief of police criminal investigations in western Afghanistan, said it is not known if they have been kidnapped.
