Strasbourg, Jan. 24 (RFE/RL) - Russian Communist Party leader
Gennady Zyuganov said today he expected the party to confirm him
next month as its candidate for the presidential election in June.
Zyuganov, whose reformed Communists gathered the most most in parliamentary elections last month, was speaking at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The Council is scheduled to debate Russia's membership tomorrow.
Zyuganov said his Communist Party is currently conducting negotiations with other political groups to form a broad coalition.
