Kyiv, March 19, (RFE/RL) -- U.S. Secretary
of State Warren Christopher said in Kyiv this morning that the vote
by the Russian State Duma to declare the dissolution of the Soviet
Union invalid was, in his words, "highly irresponsible" and
"disturbing to us."
Christopher also added that the tide of history cann-o-t be turned back. He also said that Ukraine and other former Soviet republics are independent, sovereign states and any attempt to change this unilaterally should be rejected by the international community.
Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma stated that in light of the Russian state Duma decision, Ukraine is interested in closer co-operation with NATO.
