Journalist Disappears In Chechnya

Moscow, April 4 (RFE/RL) -- A spokesman for the Russian newspaper "Obshaya gazetta" says that its correspondent Nadejda Tchuikova has disappeared in Chechnya.

Deputy editor in chief of "Obshaya Gazetta" Vitaly Yaroshevsky told RFE/RL today that the newspaper had not had contact with Tchuikova since March 6 when she was trying to reach the village of Samashki in southwest Chechnya.

Tchuikova is the third Russian journalist reported to have disappeared in Chechnya. Two correspondents from the St. Petersburg newspaper "Nevskoye Vremya" disappeared there last year.
