Warsaw, April 19 (RFE/RL) - Polish Prime Minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz and Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Stankevicius are scheduled to meet today in northeast Poland near the Lithuanian border.
The meeting will be in Augustow in Poland's Suwalkia region, home of much of Poland's ethnic Lithuanian minority.
On the prime ministers' agenda are cross-border and economic matters. The Polish daily Rzeczpospolita reported this morning that Stankevicius plans to ask for help in rebuilding Lithuania's troubled banking system.
In Warsaw yesterday, the Polish government announced that Poland has donated five helicopters to the Lithuanian armed forces. Poland earlier sent military trucks loaded with mortars and automatic rifles to its eastern neighbor. Later this year, Poland is to equip the Lithuanian army with radar installations.
The Polish Embassy in Vilnius said the gifts of military equipment have a value of several million U.S. dollars.
