Vilnius, May 16 (RFE/RL) -- The first secretary of the Russian embassy in Lithuania is being treated in a Vilnius hospital after being shot in the leg this morning by an unidentified assailant.
Russian embassy spokesman Aleksandr Antipov said the diplomat, identified as Vladimir Pozdorovkin, was in stable condition. The spokesman said Pozdorovkin was shot in the leg in the garage of his home as he was about to get into his car to drive to work.
The attacker escaped. Itar-tass quotes Vilnius police as saying a citywide search is underway for the assailant.
