Bulgarian Agricultural Minister Ready To Resign

Prague, June 6 (RFE/RL) -- Bulgarian state radio reported today that Agriculture Minister Svetoslav Shivarov intends to resign amid a nationwide shortage of bread and flour.

The radio said Shivarov announced his resignation to the leadership of his Farmer's Party, which approved it. Shivarov has not yet handed in his formal resignation to the government. The Farmer's Party is a coalition partner of the ruling Socialist Party.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Zhan Videnov said that if Shivarov resigned his post, he would likely remain in the government as a vice-premier without portfolio.
