Warsaw, June 18 (RFE/RL) - The Polish fishing trawler Admiral Arciszewski has arrived at the Aleutian Islands port of Kodiak after the U.S. Coast Guard took it into custody two days ago.
U.S. authorities charged that the vessel entered U.S. territorial waters off Alaska.
The managing director of the fishing company that operates the trawler (Piotr Jasnowski) said in the boat's home port of Szczecin that the incident is a routine one. He said that U.S. technology is effective in pinpointing a ship's location. If an incursion actually occurred, he said, the trawler will pay a substantial fine.
RFE/RL correspondent in Warsaw reports that at the time the Polish trawler was apprehended, it had on board a Russian inspector whose assignment was to assure that the vessel obeyed all rules and remained in appropriate waters.
