Yeltsin and Chernomyrdin Discuss Cabinet Changes

Barvikha, Russia; July 23 (RFE/RL) -- Russian President Boris Yeltsin and Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin talked for more than an hour today about the makeup of the new cabinet.

They met at the Barvikha sanatorium near Moscow, where Yeltsin has been resting.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Chernomyrdin said "there will be changes" in the cabinet following Yeltsin's re-election. Chernomyrdin said the changes would be "substantial" and would affect personnel as well as the structure of certain government bodies.

Yeltsin said it was too early to give specific details, but he said "the number of federal bodies, cabinet members, ministries and committees" would be reduced.
