Poland: Russian Oil Company Invests In Poland

Warsaw, 29 August 1996 (RFE/RL) - A Russian oil company this week opened its first gasoline station in Poland and announced plans to develop a network of stations in the future.

Officials for the company, Lukoil, were quoted by the Polish media as saying that the company intends to supply its stations with oil pumped out in the Kaliningrad region. Lukoil plans to sell oil directly to some of the Polish refineries.

Lukoil joins several Western oil companies in investing in Poland.

In a related development, the Polish-Russian Economic Forum opened a two-day meeting yesterday in Warsaw. Representatives of some 70 Russian companies and more than a hundred Polish firms are discussing ways to broaden and expand trade between the two countries.
