Bosnia: U.S. Says Bosnia Shows Strong Economic Growth

Prague, 5 September 1996 (RFE/RL) -- Bosnia has recently shown strong economic growth following the end of three-and-a-half years of war, says the United States.

White House spokesman Mike McCurry told reporters yesterday that production and wages continue to rise steadily, while inflation remains under control in the Muslim-Croat Federation.

McCurry said a U.S. intelligence report showed industrial production in Bosnia increased 12.6 percent from June to July and registered a 109 percent gain over the previous year.

In his statement to reporters, McCurry said he believed people sometimes focused on things happening in Bosnia and missed the very important fact that life had been transformed for many people who just over a year ago were still dealing with the consequences of a very bitter and brutal war.
