Latvia: Ambassador Signs Council of Europe Criminal Law Conventions

Strasbourg, 31 October 1996 (RFE/RL) -- Latvia's Ambassador to the Council of Europe, Andris Teikmanis yesterday signed four international criminal law conventions.

Baltic News Service quotes a statement from the Strasbourg-based Council of Europe saying Teikmanis signed the European convention on extradition, the European convention on mutual assistance in criminal matters, the European convention on the transfer of criminal proceedings as well as the Convention on the transfer of sentenced individuals.

The Conventions will take effect after ratification by the Latvian Parliament.
