Russia: EU Delegation To Discuss European-Russian Relations


Moscow, 8 November 1996 (RFE/RL) -- Three foreign ministers from the European Union (EU) arrived today in Moscow for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov about relations between Russia and the EU and European security, particularly in former Yugoslavia.

The EU delegation is led by Ireland's Dick Spring and includes also Hans Van Mierlo of the Netherlands and Italy's Lamberto Dini. The three ministers are accompanied by the EU Commission member in charge of foreign relations, Hans Van den Broek. He arrived in Moscow yesterday.

The EU representation in Moscow said Van Den Broek is also expected to meet see the head of President Boris Yeltsin's administration, Anatoly Chubais. The talks will focus on Russia's political and economic situation and increasing the level of relations between Moscow and the EU.

The EU "troika" traditionally comprises the foreign ministers of the countries holding the current, past and future EU presidency.
