Kazakhstan: Good Wheat Harvest Reported

Almaty, 12 November 1996 (RFE/RL) - Kazakhstan is reporting a wheat harvest this year of more than 13 million tons, 3 million tons more than last year.

Almaty said yesterday that up to 6 million tons of the current harvest is expected to be exported to Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran, Turkmenistan and Turkey.

Presidential Administration To Be Reduced



The press service of President Askar Akayev has announced that the presidential staff will be reduced soon by 30 percent. Yesterday's announcement also said the Legislative Assembly's staff will be reduced by 30 percent, staff of the government by 10 percent, and staff of the People's Assembly by 10 percent.
