Bishkek, 12 November 1996 (RFE/RL) - Kyrgyzstan's Constitutional Court today ruled that the choice of Mukar Cholponbaev as chairman of the legislative assembly of Parliament was not valid.
Some deputies had asserted that the necessary quorum was not present when Cholponbaev was chosen Chairman in March 1995. They have also alleged Cholponbaev is involved in corruption after more than three-million som ($200,000) from the Parliament's budget was transferred to a firm partly owned by his wife.
