Baku, 13 November 1996 (RFE/RL) - A U.S. government delegation led by State Department adviser James Collins is scheduled to arrive in Baku today for political and economic talks with Azerbaijani leaders. The U.S. delegation is scheduled to meet President Heidar Aliyev and other top officials.

The U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Kauzlarich tells RFE/RL the sides will discuss issues on the agenda of next month's Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) summit in Lisbon, and the treaty on limiting conventional military forces (CFE) in Europe.

Kauzlarich said the U.S. delegation is also expected to discuss ways Washington can contribute to a permanent settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute. Kauzlarich added that the delegation will include Joseph Pressel, the U.S. special envoy to the talks on Nagorno-Karabakh, in the framework of the OSCE Minsk group.

The U.S. delegation also travels to Yerevan and Tbilisi.
