Warsaw, 21 November 1996 (RFE/RL) - Polish President Alexander Kwasniewski yesterday signed Poland's new abortion bill into law, according to our correspondent in Poland.
The law will liberalize abortion in the country, allowing women to terminate their pregnancies if their health is in danger or for social reasons. The liberalization has been strongly criticized by Poland's powerful Catholic Church.
