Washington, 22 November 1996 (RFE/RL) - Uzbekistan Airways has contracted to purchase two Boeing 767-300ER jetliners and the U.S. Export-Import (Exim) Bank has agreed to give a $171 million loan guarantee to underwrite the sale.
The Exim Bank says the two aircraft will be used primarily for the airline's longest routes -- Tashkent to New York, Franfurt, Bangkok, Seoul, Singapore and Tokyo. The first of the planes will be delivered later this month and the second will arrive in Tashkent next March.
The $190 million transaction includes the two jet aircraft and related support equipment, including spare parts.
The loan guarantee is Exim Bank's largest transaction in Uzebekistan and its first to finance an aircraft purchase in a former Soviet country.
