Prague, 29 November 1996 (RFE/RL) - Czech President Vaclav Havel's spokesman says the president is receiving dozens of get well cards from Czech residents as well as foreign heads of state.
Havel has been hospitalized since Monday with an undisclosed lung problem. He is to undergo exploratory lung surgery next week.
Ladislav Spacek said among the well-wishers are U.S. President Bill Clinton who, Spacek said, sent a very personal greeting to Havel. Spacek quoted Clinton as writing that he and First Lady, Hillary, wish the President a quick and speedy recovery and are looking forward to further meetings, such as what the note called the unforgettable visit to a Prague jazz club, or a boat ride down the river Vltava.
Clinton wrote that Havel's friendship and support mean to him the continuation of joint efforts to built a better and safer world.
Among the others who are sending their well-wishes to Havel are Thomas Klestil, president of Austria; Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, president of Italy; Jorge Sampajo, Portugal's president; Gaboos Bin Said, the Sultan of Oman and Michal Kovac, president of Slovakia.
