Warsaw, 29 November 1996 (RFE/RL) - Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski says he is skeptical about the sense of meeting with Belarus' Alyaksandr Lukashenka in Lisbon for talks on political turmoil in that post-Soviet republic.
Speaking yesterday at a press conference in Warsaw, Kwasniewski said that he could not see "a good conclusion or even much sense to such a discussion."
Kwasniewski said that Lithuania's President Algirdas Brazauskas had suggested that he, Kwasniewski and Ukraine's Leonid Kuchma meet with Lukashenka during the forthcoming European security summit in Lisbon.
But Kwasniewski said that the summit could provide a good occasion for generally assessing the situation in Belarus.
