NATO: Christopher To Attend NATO Meeting

Washington, 2 December 1996 (RFE/RL) - U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher will attend NATO meetings in Brussels next week expected to focus on the peace process in former Yugoslavia and NATO expansion.

U.S. State Department spokesman Nicholas Burns said today that Christopher will join NATO foreign ministers in Brussels next Monday for the NATO Council's regular semi-annual review.

It will be followed on Tuesday by a meeting of the expanded council that includes foreign ministers of the former Warsaw pact countries -- the North Atlantic Cooperation Council.

Burns said the United States expects NATO restructuring and enlargement to figure prominently in both sessions. He said the peace process in Bosnia would also be high on the agenda.
