By Anthony Wesolowsky

Prague, 5 December 1996 (RFE/RL) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) says it will partially finance the reconstruction of the transportation system in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

In a statement today, the EBRD says it is issuing a loan worth over $32 million that is earmarked to repair high-priority airport infrastructure and road links in the former Yugoslav republic.

In particular, the money will go to fund the reconstruction of Sarajevo airport as well as repair work for Banja Luka's and Mostar's airports. It said the World Bank, the European Union and other donor agencies had also promised funding.

Jacques de Larosiere. the president of the London-based EBRD, said rebuilding Bosnia and Herzegovina's transport system would serve as "one of the principal catalysts" for the region's economic recovery.
