Ashgabat, 17 December 1996 (RFE/RL) - Turkey's embassy in Ashgabat has announced that a Turkish company, "Artpaper," has won a bid to build a large paper production facility in Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan's Ministry of Energy and Industry organized the international bidding, and companies from France, China and Germany, among others, submitted proposals.
Turkey's embassy says the Turkish company this month plans to begin signing contracts with Turkmenistan to start construction. The project is valued at over $100 million and is expected to begin operation in 1998. Plans call for the facility to produce 32,000 tons of assorted paper products annually.
