Prague, 6 January 1997 (RFE/RL) - Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev has signed a decree confirming the state budget.
The new budget calls for a deficit of about $1.6 billion som (about $100 million dollars).
The budget was approved by the Legislative Assembly in mid-December, marking the first time that the law was passed in parliament before the beginning of the new year.
