Prague, 8 January 1997 (RFE/RL) -- Tatarstan's Prime Minister Fard Moukhametshin and Finance Minister Roustem Minnikhanov are back in Kazan today, following a meeting in Moscow with Russian Finance Minister Aleksandr Livshits.
The Ministers' Cabinet press center has not released details of the meeting with Livshits. An RFE/RL correspondent says the meeting was expected to focus on Tatarstan's 1997 budget, which parliament accepted at the end of December.
Tatarstan will not be able to implement the budget if Moscow does not fund the salaries at military complexes and factories in Tatarstan, which are still under Russian control. Our correspondent says the Tatar ministers likely wanted to get Russian assurances that it will honor its debts.
