Uzbekistan: Iran To Help Build Bridge

Tehran, 30 January 1997 (RFE/RL) - Iranian Roads and Transport Minister Akbar Torqan says his country is ready to offer Uzbekistan technical assistance in building a bridge over the Amu-Darya river.

Itar-Tass today quotes Torqan as saying that a big river port terminal should be constructed on the Amy-Darya which would boost trade between Uzbekistan and Iran.

Torqan also said his country is interested in establishing direct air flights between Iran and the ancient Uzbek cities of Samarkand and Bukhara.
