Uzbekistan: Rights Activist Reported Detained In Moscow

Moscow, 24 February 1997 (RFE/RL) -- Uzbek human rights activist Albert Mousin is reported to be in police custody in Moscow after his arrest by Russian police on Saturday.

Our correspondent quotes police at Moscow's "Tyoply Stan" police department as saying Mousin was detained at the request of the Uzbek authorities, who issued a warrant for his arrest in March 1996.

Moscow police say Mousin is charged with "intentionally spreading falsehoods undermining the state and society" under article 191 of Uzbekistan's legal code.

There has been no comment by the Uzbek or Russian governments so far.
