Tatarstan: Prime Minister Calls For Foreign Investment




Kazan, Tatarstan; 28 February 1997 (RFE/RL) -- Tatar Prime Minister Farid Mukhametshin says that Tatarstan has more than 200 prospective commercial and industrial projects requiring foreign capital equivalent to $2 billlion U.S. dollars.

He says top priority projects are for oil extraction and processing, defense plant conversions, and agriculture. The prime minister says Tatarstan is creating a national center for assisting investors. It will be charged with coordinating the activites of state and private financial institutions, and will maintain bureaus in a number of world capitals.

Mukhametshin reported on investment processes in Tatarstant earlier this week at an international investment exhibition in Moscow.
