Central Asia: Prime Ministers To Meet Today On Economy




Bishkek, 14 March 1997 (RFE/RL) -- The prime ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are scheduled to meet today in Bishkek to discuss cooperation in the framework of the economic union which the three states formed in 1994.

Kyrgyzstan took over the Union's presidency from Kazakhstan in January. At today's meeting, a Kyrgyz representative will replace a Kazakh representative as chairman of the Union's Intergovernmental Council. Kyrgyzstan is expected to nominate its current ambassador to Belarus, Borubek Ashirov, to the post.
