Russia: Yabloko Members Will Not Join Cabinet

Moscow, 25 March 1997 (RFE/RL) -- The leader of the pro-reform Russian movement "Yabloko," Grigory Yavlinsky, says that following negotiations over the line-up of the new Russian government, Yabloko members will not join the cabinet.

However, Yavlinsky told a news conference in Moscow today that Yabloko will strongly support personally and professionally newly-appointed first Prime Minister Boris Nemtsov.

Earlier today, government spokesman Igor Shabdurasulov said Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin and his two first deputies, Nemtsov and Anatoly Chubais will give a joint news conference tomorrow. He said the press-conference will follow a meeting of Chernomyrdin with president Boris Yeltsin.

Russian news agencies said that the final composition of the Russian government is likely to be announced at tomorrow's press-conference.

Last week Chernomyrdin had asked Nemtsov to conduct consultations with "Yabloko" members over their possible participation.
