Bulgaria: Prime Minister Visits Moscow For Trade Talks

Sofia, 14 April 1997 (RFE/RL) -- Bulgarian Prime Minister Stefan Sofianski is traveling to Moscow today for trade talks. Sofianski is expected to sign an agreement on the supply of Russian natural gas to Bulgaria and neighboring Balkan countries.

The deal with Russia's Gazprom would mark the end of two years of inconclusive talks betweem Gazprom and the previous Bulgarian government. Those talks were stalled over differences concerning the ownership of a pipeline network on Bulgarian territory and transfer fees.

Sofianski also is expected to discuss bilateral trade issues -- including import-export taxes and the customs regime.
