Kazakhstan: Iranian Minister Visits

Almaty, 18 April 1997 (RFE/RL) - Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati has held talks in Almaty with Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Kasymzhomart Tokayev.

Interfax news agency says the talks forcused on regional issues. Velayati is touring Central Asia, inviting leaders to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) summit in Teheran in December.

Velayati visited Dushanbe yesterday, and held talks with President Imomoli Rakhmonov on the Tajik peace talks which opened in Teheran last week. The Tajik peace talks were suspended, and are expected to resume in two weeks, again in Teheran.
