Zagreb, 12 May 1997 (RFE/RL) -- The Croatian government today set June 15 as the date for presidential elections.
Incumbent President Franjo Tudjman, reportedly ill with cancer, has already said he will run as a candidate for the governing Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). The 74-year-old Tudjman's current term ends in August.
Opposition parities have not yet named their candidates.
